Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, has incited anger, especially from the bereaved mother of the victim, by urging people to concentrate on Durga Puja celebrations rather than denouncing the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata.
In response to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's call for people to refocus their attention from protests to Durga Puja celebrations, the mother of the trainee doctor who was brutally raped and murdered in Kolkata responded sharply.
Still in mourning over her daughter, the mother criticized Banerjee for her "insensitive" comments.
We used to celebrate Durga Puja and other festivals with our daughter, however going forward, we won't be celebrating any festivals or Durga Puja. She said that her comments were insensitive. Permit her to bring our daughter back. If this had occurred to her family, would she have said the same thing?
She further charged that the leader of the Trinamool Congress was trying to put an end to the demonstrations calling for her daughter's justice.
She said, "My lamp at home has gone out forever." They killed my kid by choking her. Right now, they're attempting to stifle calls for justice.

Banerjee's appeal for a "return to festivities" coincided with a month-long wave of protests in West Bengal and abroad. The public has supported the junior physicians leading the rallies, which want for immediate justice for the 31-year-old doctor who was found brutally slain at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 while partially naked.
Banerjee demanded calm and a return to normalcy, claiming that the protesters were causing disturbances.
She made this appeal during a meeting at the state secretariat on Monday: "I ask you to get back to celebrating and let the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) finish the investigation as soon as possible."
Banerjee refuted reports that she had made financial offers to the victim's relatives, referring to them as "slanderous lies" that were a part of a larger plot.
I never mentioned making a financial offer. The Left and the Center are conspiring on this. I defy anyone to provide evidence for such statements. She claimed that it is an attempt to discredit our government.
The Chief Minister further disclosed that Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal had been urged to stay on because of the approaching Durga Puja celebration, despite his repeated offers to step down over the rape-murder case.
Suvendu Adhikari, a Bengal BJP politician, criticized Mamata Banerjee for her demand for a "return to festivities". He asked on X, "Do you consider the public your puppets?"
He also charged her of lying in another X post, presenting films side by side that contradicted her assertions that she had not paid the doctor's family.
