Jay Shah has been elected unopposed as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), with his term beginning on December 1, 2024. Shah, currently serving as the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), will become the youngest individual to lead the ICC, succeeding Greg Barclay.
The ICC required its 16 current directors to submit nominations by August 27, 2024. Greg Barclay, who was eligible for a third term, decided not to seek re-election, creating an opportunity for Shah. Shah's nomination garnered significant backing from cricket boards around the world, notably those of England and Australia.
At 36, Jay Shah will be the youngest-ever ICC Chairman. His appointment continues a notable tradition of Indian leadership in this prestigious role, following in the footsteps of figures like Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N. Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar.

Shah currently holds the position of ICC director appointed by the BCCI and also chairs the sub-committee on Finance and Commercial Affairs within the ICC. These positions have helped solidify his reputation and prepare him for the significant responsibilities that come with leading the ICC.
With Shah's transition to the ICC, Rohan Jaitley is expected to be named the new BCCI Secretary. Jaitley, who has been the President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) for four years and was recently re-elected for a second term, is a favored candidate for the position.
Rohan Jaitley, the son of the late Arun Jaitley, a former Finance Minister of India, has a strong background in law and is currently a Central Government Standing Counsel for the Delhi High Court. His contributions to cricket administration and his family legacy make him a top contender for the BCCI Secretary role.
Other potential contenders for the BCCI Secretary position include former CAB president Avishek Dalmiya and young officials from state associations like Punjab's Dilsher Khanna, Goa's Vipul Phadke, and Chhattisgarh's Prabhtej Bhatia. The final decision may depend on the BCCI's preference for experienced figures in key roles.
