After the Chandrayaan-3 mission's success last year, Prime Minister Modi stated that National Space Day would be observed. On X, he praised India's space experts and reaffirmed his commitment to growing the space industry.
On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the inaugural National Space Day, commemorating India's momentous Moon landing victory with the Chandrayaan-3 mission.
Following India's accomplishment in this endeavor, PM Modi, who had declared the observance of National Space Day last year, greeted the country on social media.
Greetings on this inaugural National Space Day to all. We are quite proud of what our country has accomplished in the space industry. He remarked on X that today is also a day to honor the efforts made by our space scientists.
As part of its commitment to developing the nation's space industry, the prime minister stated, "Our Government has taken a series of futuristic decisions relating to this sector and we will work even harder in the future."
India became the first nation to successfully land a spacecraft on the lunar south pole on August 23, after the July 14-launched Chandrayaan-3 mission touched down on the Moon's surface. After the US, China, and the former USSR, it also became the fourth nation to accomplish a soft landing on the moon.
Among the goals of the mission were to perform in-situ scientific experiments, roam the lunar surface, and demonstrate safe and soft landings.
International dignitaries, such as NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, praised the accomplishment of Chandrayaan-3 and congratulated India for becoming the fourth nation to soft-land a spacecraft on the moon.
Josef Aschbacher, director general of the European Space Agency (ESA), acknowledged the accomplishment and emphasized ESA's role in supporting the mission with a base station.
During his state visit to the United States last year, space collaboration was a prominent topic of conversation, demonstrating the aggressive promotion of space exploration and cooperation by the PM Modi-led government. India committed to cooperating on a trip to the International Space Station when it signed the Artemis pact.
