Following the Indian men's hockey team's bronze medal victory at the Paris Olympics, Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh announced that PR Sreejesh will take on the role of head coach for the Junior India Hockey team. The announcement came shortly after India secured a 2-1 win over Spain, thanks to a brace from skipper Harmanpreet Singh and exceptional saves from Sreejesh.
This victory marks a significant achievement for India, as they have now won consecutive bronze medals in hockey for the first time in 52 years since the 1972 Munich Games. The match, held at the Yves du Manoir Stadium, was a hard-fought contest that saw India come from behind after trailing 0-1 in the first quarter.
Bhola Nath Singh stated that Hockey India plans to engage in discussions regarding Sreejesh’s new coaching position with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Government of India. He expressed his pride in Sreejesh's contributions to Indian hockey and highlighted the significance of this new chapter in his career.

Indian team captain Harmanpreet Singh also reflected on the achievement, acknowledging the importance of winning back-to-back bronze medals. He admitted that while the team aimed for gold, this experience would serve as a learning opportunity for the future.
The match was filled with emotion, especially for Sreejesh, who played his last game for India. After the final whistle, he was visibly emotional, and his teammates joined him on the field to celebrate the historic moment.
Under the guidance of coach Craig Fulton, India has now made history by securing back-to-back Olympic bronze medals. Harmanpreet Singh's goals in the 30th and 33rd minutes were crucial in securing the win, while Marc Miralles scored the only goal for Spain in the 18th minute.
