The government, according to reports, has ordered hospitals to set up isolation units and identify people who have rashes.

Following the declaration of mpox as a worldwide public health emergency, the government has taken preventative measures, such as setting up emergency wards and notifying airports, sources from the Health Ministry informed India Today TV.

The government, according to reports, has ordered hospitals to set up isolation units and identify people who have rashes.

Safdarjung, Lady Hardinge Medical College, and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital are the three nodal hospitals in Delhi that have been flagged for the same.

Patients who are suspicious will undergo RT-PCR and nasal swab tests.

According to sources, airports have also been warned to adopt the appropriate safety measures.

For the second time in the past two years, the World Health Organization has deemed mpox a global public health emergency. The virus has become more potent due to a new strain, which seems to transmit more readily through regular intimate contact, including sexual contact.

Thus yet, no instances of the novel mpox strain have been reported in India. On August 16, however, Pakistan discovered three mpox cases that had entered the nation from the United Arab Emirates.

Sweden already verified the first case of mpox outside of Africa.

30 mpox cases—mostly involving foreigners—were documented between June 2022 and May 2023, according to authorities from the Health Ministry. They stated that compared to the previous strain, the chances of dying are significantly higher.

"Vaccinated against smallpox will protect against infection. As of now, no vaccination is necessary, an official told India Today TV.
