The new 'power programme' from Infosys will emphasise specific skills like programming, software development, and coding.
The IT behemoth Infosys has launched a new 'power programme' as part of its campus placement campaign, paying as much as Rs 9 lakh annually to fresh graduates, according to sources cited by The Economic Times.
This is a lot more than the company's usual entry-level deals, which range from Rs 3-3.5 lakh.
The emphasis of the differential hiring strategy is on specialized abilities like programming, software development, and coding.
Depending on the candidate's skill level, Infosys gives remuneration under the programme that range from Rs 4-6.5 lakh to Rs 9 lakh.
This is viewed as Infosys' retaliation against rival Tata Consultancy Services' (TCS) 'Prime' programme, which hires interns for software development positions paying between Rs 9-11 lakh annually.
Additionally, TCS has added positions in cutting-edge technologies including machine learning (ML), generative AI (GenAI), and artificial intelligence (AI) to its "Prime" program.
TCS currently hires new employees into three divisions: "Prime," "Digital," and "Ninja," with compensation ranging from Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 3.6 lakh.
Due to the growing need for capabilities in cloud computing, cybersecurity, and AI/ML from digital transformation initiatives, Infosys and TCS have both expanded their focus on hiring specialized personnel.
In FY25, Infosys expects to hire between 15,000 and 20,000 grads despite a muted macro environment, while TCS maintains its goal of hiring 40,000 freshers.
After a time of downsizing, Infosys and TCS are increasing hiring amid a downturn in the $250 billion technology services sector, which led to a decrease of over 70,000 personnel among the top five IT businesses in India in FY24.
For instance, TCS gained 5,452 workers in the June quarter following three quarters of net workforce reductions, which included a 13,249 decrease in FY24.
In contrast, Infosys had a nearly 2,000 headcount decline in the first quarter of FY25, bringing its total workforce down to 315,332.
Infosys has gone back to employing fresh graduates on campus and off, following in the footsteps of other leading IT companies like HCLTech and Wipro, in order to expand their staff.
In FY25, HCLTech intends to hire 10,000 fresh graduates, while Wipro may engage up to 12,000 people.
It is anticipated that the top four IT corporations would hire about 82,000 new employees overall this fiscal year.
