On Wednesday, Governor C V Ananda Bose, who filed a defamation suit against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is expected to appear before the Calcutta High Court.

On Wednesday, July 3, the Calcutta High Court is scheduled to hear a defamation complaint against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, brought by West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose. The high court website states that the matter is scheduled to be heard before Justice Krishna Rao's bench.

The chief minister was sued for defamation on June 28 by CV Ananda Bose, who had the day before said that ladies did not feel comfortable going to the Raj Bhavan. Mamata Banerjee stated, "Women have informed me they are afraid to visit Raj Bhavan due to recent incidents reported there," during an administrative meeting in the state secretariat.

In her comments, Mamata Banerjee alluded to a May 2 report of alleged molestation against Bose by a contract worker at Raj Bhavan. On the matter, the Kolkata Police have opened a probe.

In response to her comments, the governor said that it was improper for a public figure to spread "erroneous and slanderous impressions". Bose further asserted that these were "engineered narratives" designed to obstruct his efforts to eradicate governmental corruption.

A governor may not be the subject of criminal charges while serving in office, according to Article 361 of the Constitution.

In response, Adhir Chowdhury, the president of the State Congress, made the following statement: "West Bengal's reputation is being damaged by these accusations and denials." This entire situation is disgraceful.

According to a source who spoke to news agency PTI, the West Bengal governor has also brought defamation lawsuits against other TMC leaders for saying similar things.

The Chief Minister and Governor's spat, according to veteran CPI(M) politician Sujan Chakraborty, is a sign that each has forgotten their constitutional duties.
